Remake the cover contest: Freefall

Cover of Mindi Scott's Freefall

My remade cover of Freefall

This is my entry for Truth Be Told’s remake the cover contest for Mindi Scott’s book, Freefall.

First, please click on my picture so you can see the full effect, Blog space runs a little small for my photography, but it's more engaging closer up. Thank you, now, read on! :)
I think this cover is very self-explanatory, but I do want to write about it, being a blogger, I can’t help myself. ;)

First of all, the almost-empty bottle of liquor, well, I guess you could call it the murder, or suicide weapon, is lying in the grass outside the “party house.” I hope you feel like there could be a dead body lying nearby. Ooh, creepy, I’ll wait while you shake off those shivers. I wanted the affect of night, or darkness, without blacking everything out or shooting in the waning hours of the day. That would have made things nearly impossible!

I wanted to retain the original feeling of being shattered, so I used an affect that made it look like my camera lens was broken when I took the shot, breaking the cover into fragmented pieces. I also used this affect in the font of Freefall and gave the title a shadow, because the title had a strong emphasize on the original cover and it is a one word title, which adds a drama all by itself. One word. Freefall. It’s dramatic! (I love dramatic, can’t you tell?)

I want to say, I have never read the book, and I am not aware if this “scene” exists at all, or what alcohol was consumed to kill the boy in the story. Any coincidence with the facts of the story are purely that and nothing more, I can’t wait to read this book, but haven’t even looked inside yet, poor me! ;)

The little words in the lower right hand corner say Messenger Photography, which is my photography label. This means that this photo is mine and may not be recopied without my permission.

I really hope you love it, I wanted to go the extra mile and I enjoyed my day of creativity, once I had the idea in my mind I couldn’t wait to role with it and I just love how it came out!

Blessings,

Gabrielle Carolina <3
