2012 Author Wrap-Up with Erin Jade Lange

Erin Jade Lange is here to tell us all about this year in writing and next year's book!

GC: What is best book you read in 2012?

EJL: A Monster Calls, by Patrick Ness. It is a modern fable, but it feels classic. There is something quotable on every single page, and I actually hugged the book when I was done. (and just for the record, I'm not a book hugger.)

GC: What was your favorite thing you wrote in 2012?

EJL: This might be a little cheesy, but my favorite things to write this year were the inscriptions when I signed copies of my book. It felt good to say thank you to everyone who has been supportive through the publishing process or who came to the launch and bought a book.

GC: What was your biggest writing struggle in 2012, and how did you overcome it?

EJL: My biggest struggle this year has been making time to write while also promoting BUTTER and doing revisions on next year's book. There is a business side to this whole publishing thing, and sometimes it can overwhelm the creative side. I hope to overcome it with NaNoWriMo!

GC: What can readers expect from you in the new year?

EJL: My second book will be out in the fall of 2013. Yay! It is currently titled BILLY D. & THE BULLY, but look for that title to change soon.

GC: Write down your 'Writing Resolution of 2013!'

EJL: I resolve to just write what entertains ME without thinking about whether it's marketable or been done before or fits into a genre. The best book you can write is the one you WANT to write. Anything else will just feel forced. I'm going to make that my mantra in 2013.

GC: Great mantra, Erin!

I've known about Butter for months and plan to get a copy as soon as I get an Amazon Gift Card. Can't wait to see what else you do next year. As a writer myself I second your new year resolution.
