My Review:

I do not do creepy Demon books well. No, I take that back, I just don’t do creepy demon-possessed books at all because *shudders* that’s why. I don’t recommend you read this if you are like me and are very sensitive to darkness.

However, I love Lisa McMann and had to try the book, which was extremely well written and I would be buying a finished copy if not for the creepydemonstuff. I even think the scary bits inserted between the chapters were fantastic as far as mystery and intrigue are concerned. 

I loved Kendall and the way McMann made the OCD a compelling part of the story. It’s rare an author can weave something like that in with such finesse. 

The romance is a slow-burn, but that only makes it mean more. 

I can’t wait to read whatever McMann puts out next, I just pray it isn’t possessed as Cryer’s Cross is. 

Notes on the Names: Jacian (hah-ci-ahn) is really growing on me; it’s a spanish name I hadn’t heard before, but fear using it in America because of the very possible Jace-ee-ann prn.

Kendall does consider that it is odd to be naked in a shower when Jacian is naked in a shower a few rooms away. 

Language: 

Moderate

I think there is much less cursing than in McMann’s Dream Catcher’s series, but there is still a prominent use of foul language.

The desks at the school are haunted by the spirit of school boys who were beaten to death by the school’s master. 

The spirits possess three students to bury themselves alive; the scene is illustrated through Kendall’s eyes.
