Out With A Bang!

I can’t believe it! It’s the end of 2010 and we only have two more days to READ… well, for the year.

The books I am planning to read/ am reading are:

The Cinderella Society by Kay Cassidy

The Secret Life of Prince Charming by Deb Caletti

Falling In Love With English Boys by Melissa Jensen

If I read more than that I will be shocked, but happy. It’s not like three books in three days is stunning, really it’s pathetic, my record is four books in a day. Yes, I’m lame, but for some reason whenever I NEED to do something I get the initiative to do other things. What is wrong with me?

I am hosting a Mini-Challenge for you to all participate in!

The rules:

You must be an official Challenge Participant, signed up on Mr. Linky. I will check.

You must be a Follower of The Mod Podge Bookshelf. Click the follow button on the right. I will check.

You must be a US resident, I’m sorry, I wish I was richer!
I’m doing this hoping some of my readers will join the challenge, and some of the participants will become followers! Hooray!

The Challenge:

Leave a comment on my blog telling me the character you felt the most connection with in 2010 and why you had such a strong bond with him or her.

If you wish to be entered to win the prize include your e-mail address!

The Prize:

You by Charles Benoit

And some Secret Swag...
Why that book:

I love the irony the title has in reference to my challenge and it is a 2010 debut author read, so, there you go.

Happy reading and have a blessed New Year!

I guess my pick would be Georgie from Born Under a Million Shadows. I'm not sure why I connected with her so well, other than the fact that she was "real", genuine and flawed. And she had a more reserved nature like myself.

I would have to chose Andi and Alexandrine from the wonderful book Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly. The characters were so well written and the musical connections Andi had and the struggles with wanting to make music a career despite the nay-sayers reminded me of my college days. Alexandrine was the ultimate "mother bear" caretaker doing whatever it took to help the child she loved. The book was one of my 2010 favorites!

I would have to say the Character I've connected with BEST this year has to be Alex from Daisy Whitney's The Mockingbirds . I have had moments when I have wondered if my memories were really memories or illusions and the despair that comes from trying to figure out what really happened and what has been influenced by others.

I find myself in Laura from The Romantics by Galt Neiderhoffer because all of her friends are in one place in life as couples and she is behind them. I have a lot of friends who are married or were married or having babies in 2010, I am waiting for the diamond and feel like I am behind the times a little.

I love these questions. Let's see...It's been a long year. I'm going with the character named Hal or Halloween from Idlewild by Nick Sagan. I loved his curiosity, his intense love of learning and especially about things that were a little bit off the beaten path. The kid loved Heironymous Bosch. Haha. He was sometimes depressed, just quirky and had to fight to be understood and had an ironic, slightly wicked sense of humor. rebekah.montgomery(at)gmail(dot)com

The character I felt the greatest connection to in 2010 was Ben Tomlin in the book Big Brother by Kenneth Oppel. It's a book that I didn't really see many bloggers writing about, but it is such an amazing, emotional story. I felt connected to Ben because he felt such a connection to his "brother" Zan in the story who happened to be a chimpanzee. Not that I've ever had a chimpanzee for a brother, but I just loved his emotion and sense of empathy for the animal. I am a big animal lover so I think that's why I felt so strongly about it.

I felt the most connected to Calla in Andrea Cremer's Nightshade. She had to choose whether to love who she wanted or to do what she was told. There are times when I have to decide to follow my own heart or do what everyone says. Sure it can become a mistake, but that is my mistake to make.

Thanks for the giveaway!

I would probably pick Penny from The Lonely Hearts Club. Sometimes I sick of all the boy drama and think that girls should be able to have fun without them! She's also independent which is something I like to think I am!

The character I most connected with was Calla from Nightshade. I think I fell like a lot of the things I have going on in my life right now leave me feeling as though I do them out of a sense of duty, rather than personal choice. I think that's also why I like to read so much, I can escape the doldrums of reality and put myself in the characters' way-more-exciting lives.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the readathon, and a HUGE thanks to Gabriella for hosting this mini-challenge!!! Happy New Year!
