Interview with Author Emily White

Today debut author, Emily White, joins us to discuss the Elements, er, I meant Ella-mental, I mean Elemental.

GC: You're a debut author, what's the experience been like so far?

EW: It's very surreal. Sometimes I'm just kind of blown away that it's really happening. I've met so many wonderful and amazing people since promoting my book. I definitely think that's my favorite part of the whole thing. Well, holding my book in my hands has been great too. :)

GC: What do you consider the conception point for Elemental?

EW: Hmm...I think there were a lot of things that contributed to Elemental's conception. I really wanted to write about a character who essentially had no idea who she was or where she came from, but I also wanted to take that a step further. I wanted a character who had pretty much nothing. No memory, no real past to speak of. But I also wanted to include a paranormal element to the story. In fact, the fourth chapter is really the first one I envisioned. The second chapter I envisioned was the second to last one in the book. Those two pretty much summed up the story I had in my head for so many years.

GC: If Ella could be in another book, which one do you think she'd like to guest star in?

EW: Any Dr. Seuss one. I know, that seems silly, but that's just it! I think she'd want to be in something simple. Maybe take a little vacation.

GC: I am a reader adamant that Elemental is not the book for me, change my mind!

EW: You will like Elemental. *waves jedi hand* Eh? Eh??

No? Oh well. I guess the force is not with me. :(
Okay, let me try this again. If you're looking for
something different, Elemental might just be the one for you. For one, it's in a completely different galaxy altogether where Earth isn't heard of. It has a love interest (a very sexy one, I might add), but it's about so much more than that. It's about a girl who struggles with this desire to be the perfect friend, perfect daughter, perfect girlfriend, perfect everything, but she's not. There's this monster inside her that just wants to come out and hurt everyone and everything around her. But it's also about forgiveness and loving someone anyway. Also, it has cool tech, VERY cool aliens, and explosions. BIG explosions.

GC: What's next for you as an author?

EW: Well, I'm working on Fae, the sequel to Elemental. After that's finished, I'll start work on #3. Other than that, I'm playing around with a few different WIPs, but this series is my primary focus. And some time in the foreseeable future, I'd like to start looking for an agent. We'll see. :)
