Erasing Time Blog Tour: Erasing Time Deleted Scene

Taylor suppressed the urge to pull the blindfold off her eyes.  It was too tight and sent out electronic pulses that created a kaleidoscope of white lights underneath her eyelids. Stupid thing. For centuries, civilization had been just fine using rag strips or bandanas for blindfolds, but not here in the 25th century. It had
“Are you sure this won’t make me go blind?” Taylor asked for the third time.
“We’re almost there,” Elise replied, pulling Taylor’s arm so that they went a little faster. Elise had insisted on every possible measure of secrecy before taking Taylor to see Elise’s DW friends.
White spots grew and shrank in Taylor’s sight. She kept her free hand at her side. This would all be worth it if Elise’s friends could get them out of the city. That was the important thing—getting out before the government did something horrible to Taylor and Sheridan.
Taylor heard the sound of a door swish open up in front of them, then Elise pulled her to the left.   A few moments later, the door swished closed behind them.
“I’m taking you to a chair,” Elise said.
A male voice said, “So this is the time refugee?” He sounded younger than Taylor had expected, maybe not much older than she was.
“Her name is Taylor Bradford,” Elise said.
Taylor walked slowly and didn’t say anything. No one knew that she could understand the 25th century accent. People spoke so differently now that their language didn’t seem like the same one she’d spoken back in Tennessee at all.
Elise stopped pulling her arm, and in the 21st century accent said, “You can sit down now.”
Taylor carefully did.
The guy’s voice came from behind her now. He was walking around her, checking her over. “How can you be certain this girl is really from the past?”
“She speaks the 21st century dialect,” Elise answered.
“So do you,” the guy said. “The government could have taught her. This could all be a trap to find and infiltrate our organization.”
Taylor figured she should say something so it didn’t seem like she was listening. “Is he going to help us?” she asked Elise.
“I’m explaining the situation to him,” Elise said using the old accent.
The guy let out a skeptical grunt. “She doesn’t look like someone from four hundred years ago. Back then weren’t they all obese or too thin because the wealthy ate most of the food and let the others starve?”
Taylor would have rolled her eyes if she hadn’t been afraid it would set off more white flashes. Honestly, these people had their history completely wrong.
“There are always exceptions,” Elise said.
“Can she prove she’s from the 21st century?” the guy asked.  “Have her do something that’s exclusively 21st century.”
And what would that be, Taylor wondered. Texting while driving? Sitting in rush hour traffic?
Elise took hold of Taylor’s right hand and lifted it up for the guy to see. “She has no crystal implanted in her wrist. No scar of one either.  Would the government leave someone without a crystal their entire life on the chance that it might help them infiltrate us eighteen years later?”
The guy let out a breath. There was a long pause, then he said, “You’re right.  The government would never do that.  We’ll help her.”
