2011 Author Wrap-Up with Jodi Meadows

What was the best book you've read all year? Tell me all about it!

JM: I'm horrible about choosing favorites or bests, but I've read a lot of great books this year, from Victoria Schwab's THE NEAR WITCH and its gorgeous prose, to Rae Carson's THE GIRL OF FIRE AND THORNS and its epic world building, to Brodi Ashton's EVERNEATH and its stunning romance.

What was your favorite thing you wrote?

JM: Favorites are not my thing. I'd feel bad choosing a favorite thing from all the things I've written. Therefore, I will give you what I'm pretty sure is my agent's favorite thing I've written to her in Twitter DM:

"I just spent 20 minutes figuring out how to sign my name like a butterfly. I'm ready to be famous now."

What was your biggest writing struggle, and how did you overcome it?

JM: Fear -- of not being good enough, of disappointing the people who took a chance on me, of not being able to write something as good as or better than what's already out there.

And I don't think I'll ever be done overcoming it. It's one of those things you fight every day simply by not giving up. No matter what stage you're at in the writing business, there's always something to fear.

What can we expect from you in the new year? Besides your debut Incarnate, of course.

JM: More INCARNATE books! I've still got INCARNATE 2 and 3 to finish edits on. After that? I can't make promises, but I have new stories I've been working on during my INCARNATE breaks -- but my agent would destroy me if I told you about them. :)

Write down your 'Writing Resolution of 2012!'

JM: I'd like to get through some of my TBR pile. Hah.

Great interview! I know exactly what Jodi Meadows means about being worried that what she writes won't be as good or better than what's already out there and letting people down. That's how I feel about my writing sometimes, so to know she feels that way, too, is really encouraging for me.
