2011 Author Wrap-Up with Cat Patrick

What was the best book you've read all year? Tell me all about it!

CP: I’ve read a slew of great books this year! One of my favorites was The Maze Runner by James Dashner. I’m really late to that party—it came out two years ago—but I read it last month and loved it. It’s gripping from the first page, and keeps you hooked until the last. What’s more, I met James at an event this year and he’s a great guy—I’m excited for whatever he comes up with next.

Other books I loved this year were The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler, the first two books in The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss, and my sneak peek look at Alecia Whitaker’s sweet January release, The Queen of Kentucky. Oh! And who doesn’t love Divergent by Veronica Roth?

What was your favorite thing you wrote?

CP: The acknowledgements for my second book, REVIVED. I don’t want to say too much and give anything away for those who like to actually read acknowledgements!

What was your biggest writing struggle, and how did you overcome it?

CP: Editing REVIVED was a challenge because there was a long time where the sizzle just wasn’t sizzling. I had to use my agent’s best advice and walk away from the book for a month; when I came back to it, I could see clearly how to make it better.

What can we expect from you in the new year?

CP: REVIVED, a book about a teen girl who’s died and been brought back to life five times, launches May 8, 2012. It chronicles the life of Daisy Appleby, a girl who’s part of a secret government program to test a drug called Revive that brings people back from the dead. With every death comes a new name and a new town—and this time, a new friendship, romance, and some drama, too.

Write down your 'Writing Resolution of 2012!'

CP: Get ahead! I always feel like I have more ideas than time to write them.  I’d love to finish three books in 2012.

Don't miss FORGOTTEN, the book that NY Times bestselling author Jay Asher called a "mind-bending," single-sitting read;
or REVIVED, due out May 2012, about a girl who's part of a secret government program to test a drug that brings people back from the dead.

I love the idea of this book! And I like the cover too. And the title! Okay, okay. :)
